The Quiet Ones

Operating on the theory that there is something haunting a woman, four people come together to find out what is actually haunting her.  She has been taken over by some sort of poltergeist.

I thought that there were some high points in The Quiet Ones but not enough for me to recommend it.  I thought that this movie copied other movies, which was quite disappointing.  Some people will love this movie and some will not.  I am in the middle so I gave this move 2 ½ out of 4 stars.

Amazing Spider Man 2

A powerful new villain played by Jamie Foxx and the return of an old friend bring Peter Parker (played by Andrew Garfield) to the realization that all of his enemies have one thing in common, Oscorp.  There is also a beautiful love story that intertwines with the action in this movie.  I thought the love story should have been a bigger part of this movie.

I gave this movie 3 out of 4 stars.

Hundred-Foot Journey

The great Helen Mirren delivers a top-notch performance along with new-comer Manish Dayal in this wonderful movie.  The movie starts slowly describing an Indian family’s struggles to get by after losing everything they owned including their mother in a fire in India.  They go to Europe in an attempt to start over.

While driving through the country-side in France, they lose the brakes on their van.  Fixing the van will require an overnight stay.  The father of the family (Om Puri) goes for a walk and discovers an abandoned building that is for sale.  He decides that this is where they should make their new beginning.  This building just happens to be across the street from a well-liked up-scale local restaurant owned by Madame Mallory who was played by Helen Mirren.  She attempts to sabotage any success that the new Indian restaurant may have.

This movie goes on to show the growing companionship between Madame Mallory and the father as well as Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) and Marguerite (Charlotte Le Bon) who works at the up-scale restaurant.   Hundred-Foot Journey was produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey and it delivered.   I gave this movie 3 ½ out of 4 stars.

Into the Storm

This movie was so disappointing I don’t know where to start.  The imagery in this movie was tremendous but the acting was really lacking.  Nathan Kress from iCarly and Sarah Wayne Callies from the Walking Dead were the only two good actors in this movie.

Into the Storm simply sucked.  I can’t even describe how bad this movie is but my advice is to not pay any money to watch this movie at the theatre.  Rent the movie Twister if you want to see a movie about tornadoes.  I give that movie 1 out 4 stars.

Expendables 3

This star-packed movie includes Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dolph Lundgren, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas,  Jason Statham, and Kelsey Grammer in the latest of the Expendables movies.  It also stars local Kansas City boxing champion Victor Ortiz and UFC champion Ronda Rousey.

Once again over-the-hill former CIA agents all come together as a hired group of mercenaries to go after the evil Mel Gibson who was also a former CIA agent.  From beginning to end this movie was immensely exciting.  There is tons of action and suspense and everything that comes with the Expendables movies.

I actually thought this was the best of the three Expendables movies to date.  All are fantastic but there was something special about this edition, maybe because of all the great action.  Once again go in and check your mind at the door and just enjoy all of the top-notch action that this movie provides.  I gave this movie 3 ½ out of 4 stars.

Need For Speed

Determined to take down his rival, a sprint car racer played by Aaron Paul runs through a cross-country gauntlet of cops and bounty hunters in a huge race.

I thought this movie had some high points especially the acting of Aaron Paul who was also great in Breaking Bad.  There were also some dull points in the movie.  The movie was too long and drawn out.  I gave this movie 2 ½ out of 4 stars.
